One of the exciting things about working Venice for a whole month was that
I knew the area fairly well from my previous adventures there. I first
worked Venice in 1989, and then again in both ‘94 and ’97, although each
time it was only for three or four days at the most. Why is that important
you might ask? Well, for those whom have been there you know that it’s
almost impossible to find your way from one part of the city to the next.
It is such a maze of twisting canals and sidewalks, many with dead ends,
that you would be considered lucky to find your way back to any one of
them again. Of course, there is the one main ‘S’ path that winds through
the city, which follows the Grand Canal itself, but if you get off that
it’s good luck Charlie Brown. This spot is one that is along that main
path that is about half way between the train station and San Marco
Square, just past the 5th bridge or so and on your right. I
had worked it before, just not as well.
One of our collectors, Joe
Lomax, offers his clever way to
Avoid Getting
Lost in Venice.
(Don't forget to come back to see more photos, ok?)
