Clearing Storm, Chianti, So. Tuscany, '99

Sponsored by Multi-sponsor Doug Shaw, Cardiff, California.

Light-chaser. That is my forte, as well as my job.   Shooting Tuscany (these are no vacations- my wife/assistant Valerie calls them boot camp) in the late fall/early winter is especially a blessed/cursed deal.    The colors are spectacular but the cold and rain are a real drag.   I came to the conclusion on this particular trip that, basically, I was a light-chaser!   That is, when a major rainstorm comes in, or is threatening to, I found myself speeding away from the approaching storm to give me more time to shoot.    I would find an image to work, making negatives for a few minutes, until the drizzle turned to rain, and then hop into my rental car and drive ahead of the storm again.  Thus, I would find these incredibly dramatic situations again and again, until the rains overpowered my abilities to outrun them.   It was an adventure as a great fun. ms
