Investment Art

Only one thing has beat the stock market (across the board) over the past 30 years as an investment, guess what it has been.

1. Real Estate.

2. Gold.

3. Art (paintings).

The answer; none of the above.  It has been photographic art.  NOT ART (as in paintings), but again, photographic art.  Not housing, not gold, not nada.

And how did Seewald's art fare in all of this?  Good question.  Let's put it this way, you could have purchased, sight un-seen as 25 folks did back then, one of his early travel photos and got one of your choice from his best work. For how much; well, at $125 to $175, depending on when you bought into his program of sponsorship.  BUT now the same pieces run $40,000 (or more if it has sold) as they are very limited -editions of 10 - and then he destroys the negative.

For example, his second series, China, 1987, produced another 25 sponsored images.  Pre-release, pre-trip rate was $350 on the average.  NOW those same photographs (also limited to only 10) sell at a minimum of $20,000, with price increases at $10,000 per sale until they reach $50K, then jump to $100K, then $500K and finally (at this point) $1 million dollars.

Two are currently at the $100K price, one is called 'PianoMan', and the other is 'The Three Graces'.

Sponsored by multi-sponsor John Lefferdink of San Diego, California

Note: As of 2.1.'07, a design firm in London is looking to collect a few of Michael's China series for a major bank with investments with China.  One of which they mentioned by name- The Three Graces, which would thus increase the value of the piece to $500,000.  Keep tuned.
