 Arsenal, Venice, Italy 2002


Venice has all of the microcosms of a ‘big city’ to it.  This area I was working in, as well as most areas outside the Grand Canal, was a working class neighbor hood near the ‘armory’, an Italian military area that used to store many warehouses of ammo for their defense.  As with all of these ‘off the beaten’ path areas, life slows to a crawl.  Neighbors stop to talk politics and hear about what the price of proscuitto was at the local outdoor market that day.  These men could have been finding out who had caught more fish on the incoming tides of the day.  It’ a great time to be outdoors working for an artist such as myself.
